Celebrated during the Tamil month of Aadi, this festival is especially important for Goddess Vadivudai Amman. Women take part in special prayers seeking family well-being, prosperity, and blessings.
Significance & Legends:
- Goddess Andal’s Birth: Aadi Pooram marks the day Andal, found as a baby by Vishnu Chitta (Periyazhwar) in a garden, took human form.
- Divine Union: It’s believed Andal merged with Lord Ranganatha, celebrating her intense devotion and eventual divine marriage to Vishnu.
- Goddess Shakti Worship: The month of Aadi is dedicated to Goddess Shakti, and Aadi Pooram is also seen as Goddess Parvati’s descent to bless devotees, often celebrated as a “baby shower” (Valaikaapu) for her.
